Construction Alliance North East (CAN), comprises four construction industry regional bodies; NCBF, FMB, CECA and NFB, representing over 500 member companies with a combined turnover of £3bn and employing in excess of 100,000 people.

CAN supports and promotes the North East’s talented and highly skilled SME contractors and aims to highlight the issue of ensuring that when it comes to public sector procurement, regional contractors have a fair opportunity to tender through a level playing field approach.

In the future, other aspects of the industry such as recruitment and retention and fairer payment terms will also come under CAN’s  spotlight.

Our Approach

CLC provides a full range of services for CAN since the launch of the organisation including:

  • Launch event in 2016.
  • Branding guidance and evolution.
  • Website development and maintenance.
  • Social Media management.
  • Editorial production.
  • Strategy.
  • Networking opportunities.

We have created a marketing strategy which allocates time to each of the services mentioned above which ensures we provide a time efficient and high-quality service.

A large part of our time goes towards creating networking opportunities with local authorities and MPs, following this up with a press release and compelling imagery.

As well as this, we spend time managing CAN’s social media which includes creating engaging content that reaches the target audience, replying to enquiries, and building the following with meaningful connections.

Measurable Outcomes

The launch event was a huge success with video footage recording the proceedings, the regional and national sector media picking up the story. Ongoing support for the campaign continues to come from regional construction industry groups as well as the Construction Industry Council, NELEP and regional MPs.

CAN’s Construction Charter was sent to all the MPs and local authorities in the region. We received great results with over half of the region’s MPs backing it as well as others.

We continue to arrange meetings with MPs including newly elected MPs in the region.

Social media followers have increased gradually since the launch. The average engagement rate on LinkedIn over the last 12 months has been 5.56% – which are great results!

Construction Alliance North East has become the representative organisation for construction SME’s within the region. It was an innovative organisation with great vision and great objectives but with no profile, presence or political impact and therefore lacked influence and ability to achieve change.

CAN partnered with CLC to deliver the agenda and goals through the establishment of our website, branding and communication with the people we need to influence. Together we identified what issues were barriers to fair and successful business practices and trading and developed solutions to maximise opportunities for construction SMEs. Clothier Lacey has delivered and continue to deliver our message to our industry.
